Key Dates (2026/2027)
The AUS004 Australian Science and Engineering Fair (AUSSEF) was formed so no Australian student misses out on the opportunity of representing our country on the world stage at the annual International Science and Engineering Fair.
Thursday 7th May – Monday 18th May 2026: AUSSEF trip to Phoenix, Arizona to compete at ISEF 2026
Regeneron ISEF 2026 runs from 10-15 May. Our AUSSEF team will have two days for sight-seeing at the Grand Canyon and a Hummer Sunset tour of the Sonoran Desert before the Fair begins. 1800 students from more than 70 countries will be vying for USD $9 million in prizemoney and scholarships at the world’s largest pre-collegiate Science and Engineering Fair.
Monday 25th May – Friday 29th May 2026: Official launch of AUSSEF 2026 Competition
All Australian schools and teachers on the AUSSEF STEM Teacher Database will be sent an email and flyer informing them of the scope and impact of Australia’s major STEM fair for Year 9-12 students. Teachers wishing to add their name to the STEM Teacher Database can simply request this by emailing info@aussef.com.au .
Wednesday 11th November 2026: Deadline for AUSSEF 2026 Project Submission
Projects to be received by 11:59:59 pm in the time zone of your Australian state or territory. Entries will be time-stamped and any late entry will not be judged. An appeal process will be established, with the final decision to be made by the AUSSEF Scientific Review Committee (SRC). Please ensure entries are submitted well before the deadline so internet issues do not affect your submission.
Monday 16th November – Wednesday 25th November 2026: Stage 1 Judging for AUSSEF 2026 projects
National Short-listing Judging Panels in the 22 ISEF categories will triple-mark all projects and short-list the top 1-4 projects from each category to be forwarded to the Stage 2 Judging Panel.
Thursday 26th November – Friday 27th November 2026: Stage 2 Judging for AUSSEF 2026 projects
Stage 2 Judging Panel will feature senior assessors from the Stage 1 Judging who will narrow the short-listed projects down to 20 projects.
All students will find out if their projects are short-listed or not on the 30th November or 1st December. Students with short-listed projects will be informed of video interview details on Wednesday 2nd December.
Monday 30th November – Monday 14th December 2026: Stage 3 Judging for AUSSEF 2026 projects
The ISEF Selection Judging Panel, independent from Stage 1 and 2 judging, will assess the short-listed projects from Stage 2 and rank the top projects. Stage 3 Judging will include each short-listed student or team having a 10-15 minute online video interview with members of the ISEF Selection Judging Panel. These video interviews will be scheduled from Monday 7th December to Friday 11th December, between 5pm – 8:30pm.
Judges in each stage will be using the published judging criteria that are based on the ISEF judging criteria.
Wednesday 16th December 2026: Email notification to nominated ISEF Team
The top nine project winners and their teachers and adult sponsor will be notified by email on Wednesday 16th December 2026.
Online Announcement of AUSSEF 2027 ISEF Team (to be confirmed)
Thursday 6th May – Monday 17th May 2027: AUSSEF trip to Los Angeles, California to compete at ISEF 2027 (to be confirmed)
