Today marks the calm before tomorrow’s Judging Day at ISEF.

This morning, finalists entered the exhibition hall independently to stand alongside their projects during the Press, Sponsors and VIP session. While these interactions often focus predominantly on American finalists, our AUSSEF students embraced the opportunity to connect with and learn from neighbouring finalists from around the world, continuing to build friendships and international scientific connections.

Following the session, students attended the Excellence in Science and Technology Panel Presentation featuring Sarah StewartSethuraman Panchanathan, and W. E. Moerner (2014 Nobel Prize winner in Chemistry), interviewed by Joe Palca alongside student finalists.

A key topic of discussion was the future of innovation in an increasingly AI-driven world. Panel members emphasised the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration, including partnerships beyond the sciences, as well as the need to communicate science in ways that are meaningful and accessible to society. Students were particularly interested in the panel’s reflection that mindset and adaptability may ultimately prove more important than technical skill set alone in shaping future innovation.

This afternoon has been intentionally reserved for rest, reflection, and final preparation ahead of tomorrow’s judging. This evening, finalists will attend a student mixer dinner, providing another opportunity to strengthen the friendships and global connections formed throughout the week. Tonight will be an early one as the team prepares for tomorrow’s big day.

Thank you once again for supporting these outstanding young scientists and engineers as they represent Australia on the international stage
