This is a special update – the Daily Update for Day 8 will come out later. The AUSSEF & NZ contingent in the US are jubilant with Michael Reeves winning a USD $1000 special award tonight. Michael, a Year 11 student from Ivanhoe Grammar School, Victoria, conducted an embedded technology project entitled, “CryoFlow: A Zero-Copy FPGA Accelerator for Cryo-EM”. He was equal 1st place in the Society Alumni Special Award, an award given to students who demonstrated excellent communication abilities and best exemplifies extraordinary outcomes with ordinary resources.

Here is a video excerpt taken earlier today of Micheal explaining his project to a group of Phoenix primary school students who visited his display during the Public Visitation Day. Here is the moment that Michael’s name was called out – from the parent’s vantage – from the student vantage. Here are a few more celebratory photos of Michael with his father, his AUSSEF team mates I and II and his chaperones who have assisted him over the last few months.
